The 1926 Underwood typewriter had been owned by Los Angeles Police Commission President Steve Soboroff, whose extensive collection includes typewriters own by John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio, among others.. According to TMZ, Hemingway used the typewriter for his works in the late 1930s as well as his 1940 classic, For Whom the Bell Tolls. TMZ says Angelina's agent got in touch with Soboroff and made him a quarter-of-a-million dollar offer that he couldn't refuse.
