San Angelo, Texas, April 2, 2014 – What will you do to prevent child abuse? Child abuse prevention is a community responsibility and the Children's Advocacy Center has activities planned for the whole month of April. The CAC invites you to STAND UP to child abuse and get involved.
In 2013, there were 483 confirmed cases of child abuse or neglect in Tom Green County.  A child is abused every 8 minutes in Texas. Here are ways you can change these numbers and make a difference for a child in your community.

The CAC needs your help! Their goal is to have 483 children and volunteers on the Court House lawn April 8th, 12:00 pm, to represent the 483 children that were abused or neglected in 2013.  Those in attendance will get to experience the powerful emotion of standing up for children. After a group photograph on the Court House steps, Chief Vasquez will address the crowd and share inspiring words about child abuse prevention.

"Go Blue Friday" - Every Friday during April, show your support by wearing blue! Blue is the national color for child abuse awareness. Email pictures to  of your group or office "going blue" to show your support. Pictures will be posted on Facebook

Picnic in the Park - on April 13th from 2:00-4:00 pm at Kirby Park. This is a FREE event sponsored by the CAC to promote healthy and nurturing families with games, music, food and fun.

Support the "Promise to Protect" campaign - the CAC is asking the community to "promise to protect" local children with a contribution of $483.00 ($1/child abused in Tom Green County). This contribution will provide hope and healing to the children that have experienced abuse or neglect. In appreciation for your valuable support, you or your business will be featured on Facebook and receive a hand-delivered bouquet of blue pinwheels.
