Aqua Squad Has A Busy Summer
This past summer, Aqua Squad – a group of 10 middle schoolers tasked with the job of being water stewards and ambassadors for our community – spent 3 weeks learning from experts in hydrology, watershed studies, conservation, as well as, communication and videography.
This is the 4th group of students in this program funded by an Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant, and the result of a partnership among the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, the Upper Colorado River Authority and San Angelo ISD. Aqua Squad traveled to Philadelphia PA this summer and spent a day at the Franklin Institute – which included a presentation on West Texas water issues to their staff. In addition, they visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art and partnered with a group of high school students called “Project Flow” that are helping the City of Philadelphia educate the city on water pollution concerns.
SAMFA, UCRA and SAISD are proud to recognize these students. They will be presenting at multiple community and school events including EcoFair on October 19 and will make a presentation to City Council in October 1.
