Angelo State University’s Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Tim Bonenfant of the music faculty, will perform its fall concert this Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the ASU Auditorium.The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The ASU Auditorium is in the Mayer Administrative Building, 2601 W. Avenue N.

Selections will include “Our Love Is Here To Stay” by George and Ira Gershwin, featuring vocalist Kate Newton, as well as “My Man’s Gone Now” by the Gershwin brothers with guest soloist Ed Hull. The program will also include “Sugar Rum Cherry,” Duke Ellington’s arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” “In Walked Bud” by Thelonius Monk, “Moanin’” by Charles Mingus, “Ran Kan Kan” by Tito Puente, “Stolen Moments” by Oliver Nelson, “Sea Spray” by Fred Stride, “Jeru” by Gerry Mulligan, “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla and Bonenfant’s arrangement of “Lingus” by Michael League.

The ASU Jazz Ensemble offers student performers the opportunity to study a wide variety of jazz music, from the early days of its New Orleans birthplace to today’s jazz greats. Director Bonenfant, an associate professor of music, teaches clarinet and saxophone and is a member of The Mesquite Trio and the Batik Quartet.
