Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star is the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the world. As a donor-supported volunteer youth mentoring organization, our program has been placing caring adults in the lives of children in one-to-one mentoring relationships since 1927. Through the positive impact of such friendships, children with a Big Brother or Big Sister are more likely to graduate high school and are less likely to begin using drugs, begin using alcohol or engage in negative conflict.

Last year as an agency, Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star served nealy 10,000 children. At the end of 2013, 95 children were served and 81 remained on the waiting list in San Angelo alone.

Here are some staggering statistics about their program:

  • - 98.5% of our Littles are promoted to the next grade level
  • - Littles are 52% less likely to skip school
  • - Littles are 46% less likely to use drugs
  • - Littles are 33% less likely to hit someone

Learn how you can become a 'BIG' by calling 486-2200 or stop by the Big Brothers Big Sisters office at 408 South Oakes.
