A 31-year-old San Angelo man who was recently featured on a SAPD Wanted Poster was arrested late Wednesday night after a brief foot chase.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Officer E. Tabone observed a vehicle which he believed was occupied by known fugitive, Eric Estrada, exiting the Walmart parking lot on 610 W. 29th Street.  As the vehicle traveled, the driver also committed a moving violation.

Officer Tabone attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the unit block of W. 27th street.  When the vehicle pulled into a private driveway in the unit block of W 27th, Estrada exited the vehicle and ran away through neighboring yards.  Shortly after a chase began, Officer Tabone caught Estrada and took him into custody without incident.  During a search of Estrada incident to his arrest, Officer Tabone located a small baggy that contained marijuana.  A glass pipe was also located in the immediate path of the foot chase.

SAPD K9 Officer H. Miller and his Police Service Dog Thor responded to the scene to conduct an interior “Sniff” of the vehicle.  During the “Sniff”, Thor alerted interest in the interior.  When officers searched the vehicle, they located a bullet in the center console.  The bullet was seized and tagged into evidence.

Estrada was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with outstanding County and City Warrants, Evading Arrest/Detention with Prior Conviction, Class B Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Estrada was the subject of an Arrest Warrant issued in connection with an Aggravated Assault incident that occurred earlier this month at the Motel 6 located at 311 N. Bryant Blvd.  Police were called to the scene after a motel staff member found blood and bullet holes inside one of the unoccupied rooms.  Subsequent to the investigation, police learned Estrada and Frank Mayo were named as suspects who allegedly assaulted one of the motel’s occupants.  Investigators later obtained Arrest Warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for both Mayo and Estrada.  Mayo was located and arrested for his warrant on February 16, 2014.
