Christmas at Old Fort Concho’s 18th annual gingerbread house contest will feature two categories: general, for any holiday design; and special for any type of “house,” be it a firehouse, doghouse, schoolhouse, etc.
In conjunction with the gingerbread house contest, Christmas at Old Fort Concho will also feature a decorated cookie contest.

Entry forms for both contests must be received by Fort Concho, 630 S. Oakes St., by Dec. 1. Entries will be received at the Post Hospital from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 3. Judging will occur at 2:30 p.m. that day. All entries will be displayed throughout Christmas at Old Fort Concho Dec. 4-6.

Both contests offer age classes from 6-8 up to adult.

Each class in the gingerbread house contest will offer cash prizes of $35 for first place, $25 for second place and $20 for third. Prizes in the cookie contest will be $25 for first place, $15 for second and $10 for third.

All gingerbread houses, outbuildings (if any), trees or shrubs, fences, people, etc., in the designs must be made of edible material, be it gingerbread, graham crackers, cookies, pretzels, gum, candy, marzipan or ice cream cones.

Cookie entries will consist of six decorated cookies. Cookies will be judged based upon taste (45 percent), appearance (35 percent), and originality and use of materials (20 percent).
