Angelo State University’s 2013 Homecoming Week will include a variety of student and alumni events, culminating this Saturday with the Homecoming football game between the ASU Rams and Eastern New Mexico.This year’s homecoming theme is “The Roaring ’20s” in recognition of the 85th anniversary of ASU’s founding in 1928.

The majority of Homecoming events will take place Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12, highlighted by the ASU Alumni Association’s annual Homecoming Dinner on Friday in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.  Activities will begin with a social gathering at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are available from the Alumni Association for $60 per person or $100 per couple.  Complimentary valet parking and a cash bar will be provided.

At the dinner, former San Angelo Mayor Alvin New will be honored as the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus.  Chris Sloan, head of Ambleside School of San Angelo, will be named the Distinguished Carr Alumnus.  Tara Hart, ASU’s associate director of admissions, and Air Force Col. Casey Eaton, Class of 1993, will be recognized as the Honorary Alumna and Distinguished ROTC Alumnus, respectively.  Dr. Mack McCoulskey, who played basketball for San Angelo College and spent 36 years on the ASU education faculty, will be honored as the Golden Ex of the Year.

Also recognized will be Dr. Donald Shelby as Outstanding Retired Faculty, Dr. Alaric Williams for Distinguished Faculty Achievement and Leonor Constancio for Distinguished Staff Achievement.

Also on Friday, students, faculty and alumni will gather at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St., for a pep rally at 8 p.m. followed by the annual Homecoming bonfire.  A parade led by ASU’s ROTC detachment and featuring the Ram Band will begin at 9 p.m. and will travel from the pep rally site to the bonfire in the open area near Knickerbocker Road.  During the pep rally, a run-through sign contest and step contest finals will also be featured.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, the annual ASU Homecoming Parade will wind through downtown San Angelo beginning at 11 a.m. at Harris Avenue and Oakes Street.  It will be followed by the ASU Alumni Association’s Ram Jam at 3:30 p.m. at the LeGrand Center.

The Rams’ football game against Eastern New Mexico University will begin at 6 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.  At halftime, the Homecoming Court will be presented, the queen and king will be named and the Spirit Stick will be given to the student organization judged most spirited.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, the University Center Program Council will host a Murder Mystery Game Show contest at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the University Center.  On Friday, Oct. 11, the Admissions Office will offer campus tours beginning at 3:30 p.m.
