Monday, September 2, 2013, at approximately 6:30 p.m., San Angelo Police and Fire personnel responded to the Stripes convenience store located at 2718 Sherwood Way for the report of an unconscious male inside the men’s restroom.
Upon arrival, staff members advised police that an unknown, unconscious male subject was inside the restroom and they were unable to check his welfare because his body was obstructing the doorway.

Upon entry into the restroom, rescue personnel located the man who was unconscious and not breathing along with items of drug paraphernalia.  Rescue personnel determined the man was deceased.  While attempting to locate the man’s identification, police found he was in possession of a substance that tested positive for heroin.

Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard responded to the scene and formally pronounced the subject deceased.  The body was transported to Lubbock Medical Center.  Although authorities suspect the 26-year-old man died of a drug overdose, the official cause of death is unknown and an autopsy has been ordered.

This is an active investigation and the victim’s name is not being released at this time.
