The San Angelo Community Band, directed by Dr. Constance Kelley of the Angelo State University music faculty, will host the final concert of its summer season on Monday, Aug. 1, in the Life Center of Sierra Vista Methodist Church, 4522 College Hills Blvd.

Titled “Strike Up the Band!” the concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is open free to the public. The musical program will include “Gavorkna Fanfare” by Philip Sparks, “Manhattan Beach March” by John Philip Sousa, a rhapsody on “O Waly Waly” arranged by Jay Bocook, and a rousing closer by Leroy Anderson, among others. Special features will include a euphonium solo by San Angelo native Jake Martin, as well as a piece highlighting the entire trumpet section.

The San Angelo Community Band is an all-volunteer, nonprofit ensemble that offers a creative outlet for amateur musicians. Its members annually perform a variety of summer concerts, as well as at various special events, and represent a cross-section of the local community, including ASU students, faculty and staff.
