San Angelo Community Band Concert
The San Angelo Community Band, directed by Dr. Constance Kelley of the Angelo State University music faculty, will host a free public concert on Monday, June 19, at 7 p.m. in the Life Center of Sierra Vista Methodist Church, 4522 College Hills Blvd.
Titled “Stardust”, the concert will feature an eclectic repertoire of marches, light popular tunes and standard wind band pieces. Highlights will include jazz standards: I’m Getting Sentimental Over You, Here’s That Rainy Day, Stompin’ at the Savoy, In the Mood, Riders for the Flag by John Phillip Sousa, Light Cavalry Overture by Franz Von Suppe, a medley of songs from Porgy & B3ss by George and Ira Gerswin, and Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael.
The San Angelo Community Band is an all-volunteer, nonprofit ensemble that offers a creative outlet for amateur musicians. Its members annually perform a variety of summer concerts, as well as at various special events, and represent a cross-section of the local community, including ASU students, faculty and staff.
Kelley is an associate professor of music at ASU and also directs the ASU Flute Choir. sanangelocommunityband.org
