On March 30, 2017, at approximately 3:15 p.m., San Angelo Police conducted a traffic stop on a 2005 Maroon Lincoln Navigator near the intersection of Edmund Boulevard and N. Van Buren Street.

Upon approach of the vehicle, the Officer recognized the driver as 33-year-old Daniel “DANNY” Lopez, who was known to the Officer as having an outstanding Parole Warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  Lopez was immediately detained and subsequently arrested upon confirmation of the warrant.

During a search of the vehicle incident t Lopez’s arrest, Officers located a loaded firearm underneath the driver’s seat.  Through a records search, the firearm was confirmed to be stolen.

Pursuant to the field investigation, Detectives with the Department’s Street Crimes Division developed probable cause to apply for and obtain a search warrant for Lopez’s residence. 

The warrant, issued by District Judge Jay Weatherby, was executed at a residence in the 2000 block of Field Street.  During the search, Investigators located and seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, approximately $5,500.00 in U.S. currency, two (2) Kevlar vests, an abundance of ammunition and gun cases, and eight (8) firearms.  Three of the firearms were confirmed stolen.  

Members of the Department’s Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and K-9 Unit assisted with the operation. 

Lopez was transported to Tom Green County Jail without incident following the traffic stop and booked for his outstanding Parole Warrant.  Additional charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
