On September 10, 2013, at approximately 5:30 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of Bonham and E. 40th Streets to meet with a victim who reported his 1995 Mercury Cougar was stolen from Lake View High School sometime during the day.
While on the call, police received information that Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies were detaining two male suspects who attempted to flee the scene after crashing a 1995 Mercury Cougar into a fence near the 1600 block of E. 50th Street, just outside the city limits.  The suspects were identified as Ty H. Adams (09-09-96) of San Angelo and a 15-year-old San Angelo resident.  Deputies learned two additional male suspects had already fled the crash scene.

As a result of the field investigation, police arrested Adams for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.  Adams was transported without incident to the Tom Green County Jail.  The 15-year-old juvenile was released to his guardians.

As information developed in the investigation, Investigators obtained additional suspect names in connection to the incident.  On September 11, 2013, Investigators located and interviewed those suspects.  Police determined the 15-year-old male who was previously released to his guardians after the crash, a second 15-year-old male, and one 14-year-old male were connected with the theft of the Mercury Cougar.  At the time of the interview, police recovered a suspected stolen laptop computer and numerous items of jewelry from one of the 15-year-old juveniles.  Police believe additional thefts and burglaries may be solved as a result and additional charges may be filed at a future date.  The three juveniles were arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and booked into the Tom Green County Juvenile Justice Center.

In addition to the stolen Mercury Cougar, police connected these suspects to a recently recovered stolen white Chevrolet Suburban.  The Suburban, recovered on September 9, was located abandoned in a field near 37th and Marx.  Police made the connection after locating items of evidence inside the Suburban, linking these suspects to the theft.

This was a joint investigative effort by the SAPD Patrol and Criminal Investigative Divisions.
