Sturgill Simpson's official music video for “Brace for Impact (Live a Little)” is unique, brooding, grim ... and a little creepy.

The clip was directed by Matt Mahurin, an accomplished illustrator, photographer, film director and teacher; he's been in the creative world for over 35 years and has worked with artists such as Peter GabrielU2, REM, Tracy Chapman, Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Ice-T, Metallica, David Byrne, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits. Mahurin is an artist in high demand -- and Simpson's new video is proof of why.

The "Brace for Impact (Live a Little)" music video switches between shots of Simpson and illustrations -- but it's more Tim Burton than Pixar. Press play on the video above to see the clip.

“Brace for Impact (Live a Little)” is from Simpson’s third full-length record, the forthcoming A Sailor’s Guide to Earth. Simpson produced the project himself, and he wrote it as a letter to his first child. It features eight original songs and a rendition of Nirvana's "In Bloom."

“I had already made Metamodern [Sounds in Country Music], so I didn’t want to make another psychedelic country record. But I’ve said it before: As soon as I open my mouth, it’s always going to be a country record …,” Simpson says. “A lot of this record came from me figuring out my place in that world while it was all happening because it was such a sudden and intense transition around the same time that my son was born. I just wanted to do something really beautiful for him.”

A Sailor's Guide to Earth is set for release on April 15 on Atlantic Records. Simpson and his band will kick off a 2016 tour soon after, with stops planned in Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and more. For more information, visit SturgillSimpson.com.
