Suspicious Package At Shopping Center Causes Major Disruption
San Angelo Police Department and other law enforcement officials responded to a call today in the Commons Shopping Center on Sherwoodway.
The report of a hard shelled plastic container was called in at 8:26 am, and law enforcement quickly set up a 300 foot safety perimeter and took necessary actions to ensure the safety of those in the close vicinity of the call. A bomb sniffing dog was called on from Goodfellow Air Force Base and the Abilene Police Departments bomb squad we also called to assist.
The investigation turned up no explosives but is still an ongoing investigation by the City of San Angelo Fire Marshal's Office. Ross Coleman Fire Marshal said "While we hated having to disrupt those businesses we have no choice but to take any report of a suspisicious package seriously. In the wake of recent events in Boston and West, Texas its a simple matter of protecting the public.
