They are one of the ultimate Tex-Mex Supergroups. The Bands debut album came out in 1990 with founding members Freddy Fender, Flaco Jimenez, Augie Meyers, and Doug Sahm. What a supergroup. Each of these guys were big names in the business before they formed the Texas Tornados and started recording and touring together.

These guys played all over the country and all over the world as well for years. They played Bill Clinton's Presidential inauguration and turned right around to play the Montreux Jazz Festival. I think you could say they were quite versatile.

The Texas Tornados won a Grammy Award their first year in 1990 for 'Best Mexican American performance'. Having said that, it is interesting to note that a number of their fans sometimes refer to their lyrics as 'Spanglish' because of the mixture of English and Spanish in the same song.

They have had a string of hits over the years both as albums and singles. It's 'Throwback Thursday' so lets reach back for one of their biggest songs ever and still their signature song from 1990, recorded live in concert  at  Gruene Hall in 1992. It's 'Hey Baby Que Paso'. Check it out in the above video and listen for it on Kickin' Country 103.1.
