The first officer arrived and found several subjects protecting themselves with shovels and PVC pipe from a large-breed dog that was running loose.

Medics arrived and but were unable to immediately aid the injured woman due to the dog’s continued aggression.

As the Officer attempted to corral the dog to allow Medics to aid the woman, the dog turned on the Officer and bit him without release.  Fearing further injury to himself or others at the scene, the Officer drew his firearm and shot the dog two times.  The dog died at the scene.

The Officer sustained minor injuries from the dog’s attack and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released.  The injured woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she later underwent surgery.

Animal Control Personnel also responded to the scene.  No other injuries were reported.   The dog’s owner reportedly received a citation for Dog at Large.
