9/11 Memorial In San Angelo
Concho Valley residents will have a chance of a life time to honor and pay respects to those 343 New York Fire Fighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the wake of 9/11.
Thanks to the works of the Military Fire Fighter Heritage Foundation here in San Angelo, a beautiful memorial that will be present May 2nd -5th at Water Education Resource Building downtown next to the Fine Arts Museum.
Artist Dawn Siebel a Manhattan resident for 22 years watched from her new home in Colorado the devastation that unfolded on 9/11. She remembers the news broadcasting that over 300 firefighters had given the ultimate sacrifice and that's when she said "My dam broke. They were the ones who ran into the buildings. Twelve days later when The New York Times printed a two-page spread with all 343 pictures, this project was born."
You can stop by and see the memorial for no cost May 2 thru May 5th, Dawn Siebel will be on hand for you to meet and speak too.The 4' tall 21' long hand crafted memorial took over 3000 hours to build. Each firefighters portrait is painted on a 4"x6" block of Baltic birch that has been burned and painted by hand.
