The pandemic has caused shortages of various things, but the latest shortage could affect your next take-out order: it’s pepperoni.

Pizza places all over the country are scrambling to get pepperoni due to the rising cost from distributors. Restaurants from New York to South Dakota have seen a significant increase in the price of pepperoni, with the cost nearly doubling in some areas.

There are two main factors causing the shortage:

1. Pork processors have had to deal with a reduced number of workers during the pandemic.

2. More pizza was ordered during it.

Right now, only small pizza places have been affected compared to larger chains since they buy ingredients through long term contracts, according to FOX.
