Elvis and Merle Songs Enter the Grammy Hall of Fame

The prestigious Grammy Hall of Fame, now in its 44th year is about to induct tracks from Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley as some of the most celebrated music in history. 

The Hall of Fame announced they are inducting 25 new songs in 2017. “Okie From Muskogee” and “Jailhouse Rock” are two of them!

Joining them are songs by fellow country music artists Bonnie Raitt and the Everly Brothers.

The 2017 song inductees are a very diverse selection. The one common factor is that they were all released more than 25 years ago. The inductees will be honored at the Grammy Museum of Los Angeles.

“The Grammy Hall of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which the Academy has become renowned,” President and CEO Neil Portnow stated. “Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog and are an integral part of our musical, social and cultural history.”

A committee made up of professionals from the music industry reviews songs from history each year. They select songs to induct before sending them for approval to The Recording Academy’s National Board of Trustees.

The Grammy Hall of Fame will also induct songs from Nirvana, The Beach Boys and Prince to give you an idea as to the diversity.
