LA County Children's Hospital has reported 6 cases of teens showing up to the emergency room drunk from distilling hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer is made up of at least 62 percent ethyl alcohol and is being distilled with salt to separate the parts of the hand sanitizer, giving teens what could be as strong as 120 proof alcohol. The new fad seems to be confined to the LA County area but concerns are on the rise with the teens having easy access to distilling directions on the web.  Parents are cautioned at this point to be proactive and talk to their kids about the dangers of these actions as well as treat any hand sanitizer like liquor or alcohol and put them away out of reach of children and teens!
