What's up Texans? My name is Quinn, and if you don't know me, I am an Employee with Townsquare Media.

I am originally from California, but I spent the past few years of my life living in Maine. So looking outside and seeing snow on the ground is not something new to me.

So I learned a thing or two in Maine when it comes to being inside for a long period of time.

You absolutely need these essentials:

  • Blankets
  • Non Perishable food
  • Flashlights
  • Portable phone charger

In an emergency situation when you find yourself without power where it is especially cold outside you have to stay warm, so always have blankets with you.

Peanut butter and jelly are my go to non perishable food of choice. Now if you have an allergy, cereals, jerky, and granola bars are a great option. It is always smart to have non perishable foods in your pantry just in case something happens.

A lack of power in any situation can be dangerous. Now when it's light outside obviously things are easier to navigate, but if you have power when the sun goes down, it is best to have flashlights available.

If you are unable to make a call in an emergency you are literally in an impossible situation. Always have a portable phone charger handy AND CHARGED. It is just a brick if you do not charge the battery packs when you're not using them.

Now that you are prepared, it's time to figure out how to pass the time. I LOVE board games, that is always a good way to enjoy the indoors.

Of course, portable video games are always a plus as well, just remember those things have a limited use due to their batter level.

Crosswords, sudoku, and word search books are also handy to have around the home so you don't lose your mind from boredom.

Stay safe inside, leave your water running, not like full blast, but a slow trickle will help prevent the pipes from freezing. Don't use unneccesary power.
