Get Ready Abilene the Longhorns Are Coming to the Big Country
Abilene to Host the 2025 Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America World Expo
Abilene, Texas—For the first time in history, Abilene will host the prestigious Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America (TLBAA) World Expo at the Expo Center of Taylor County from June 18 to June 22, 2025. The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, is thrilled to bring this major event to the Big Country.
As someone who has a personal connection to Longhorns, I’m especially excited. My father-in-law spent years breeding Longhorns in the Texas Hill Country and even had a small ranch in Kansas. One of the Longhorns was named after me, Rudy (he became the wild one).
While I never followed in my father-in-law's footsteps into the Longhorn business, I’ve always admired these amazing animals. People often buy Longhorns as pets because they’re surprisingly calm, and incredibly smart. I even believe they’re part-human sometimes, with their expressive faces when you talk to them.
The Legacy of the Texas Longhorn
The TLBAA, with over 3,800 members, is dedicated to promoting the Texas Longhorn breed, which has a storied role in Texas history. Originally raised for beef, Longhorns are now part of Texas' cultural heritage as the state’s official large mammal. Today, they’re bred for conservation, horn length, and even used in steer riding competitions.
Estimated Economic Impact To Be $922,500.00
The 2025 World Expo is set to bring in well over 1,000 attendees to Abilene, with an estimated economic impact of nearly million dollars. With its rich history and growing reputation, this event will be a massive win for the local community.
