According to the latest studies and numbers from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), most of Texas has at least one of the most stolen vehicles in their driveway. While Texas is different from the rest of the United States. It's apparent that "West Texans" drive a lot of the top 10 autos that are highly sought after by thieves.

With almost 70,000 car thefts every year, Texas is in second place trailing behind California for the most stolen vehicles by state. However, car thieves tend to target vehicles that are easier to steal, like a Chevy full-size pickup truck.

According to Defensive Driving.org, the reason a certain vehicle is stolen more than others is not necessarily because of its good looks and styling but rather because it's a more popular model, as in there are more of them on the road to steal.

Defensive Driving.org says that while Honda, Toyota, and pickup trucks are in high demand. The thieves are looking to strip the autos and sell the parts. It's a numbers game for thieves, they are simply looking for the most popular models so they can get top dollar for their stolen parts.

In West Texas, Odessa Has The Highest Amount Of Cars Stolen

In Texas, Odessa has about 950 vehicles stolen annually according to the NICB's latest report. Here is the list of autos most wanted by thieves in Texas. If you own one, you might want to step up how you secure your vehicle. Think alarms, parking in a garage, or a hidden voltage cut-off.

  6. Nissan Altima: 13,355 annual thefts
  7. Toyota Corolla: 12,137 annual thefts
  8. Dodge Pickup (Full Size): 11,292 annual thefts
  9. GMC Pickup (Full Size): 11,164 annual thefts
  10. Honda CR-V: 10,094 annual thefts
