How to Say “I Love You” Texas Style: And Truly Mean It
I guess I’m a little old-school when it comes to love. One of my favorite songs of all time is “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” by Bing Crosby. I memorized the words to the song so I can sing it to her, because sometimes a song says what a heart feels better than we ever could.

And there’s another song I’ve always told her I’d sing to her for the rest of my life, “I’ll Be Seeing You.” I’ve even asked to have it played at my funeral one day. That’s not sad, that’s forever love. That’s the kind of love that doesn’t end, it just changes places.
I’ve learned a lot about love over the last 45-plus years, especially being married to a Texas woman. And if there’s one thing I know, it’s this: down here in the Lone Star State, we don’t just say “I love you.” We show it in big, simple, unforgettable ways.
I’ll be honest, I used to think grabbing a last-minute gift card counted as romantic, until my wife kindly let me know that it didn’t exactly say “thoughtful.” Lesson learned. Now I know it’s not about money, it’s about meaning.
1 - Say It in a Bluebonnet Moment
Nothing says Texas romance like pulling over when the bluebonnets bloom.
Texas-style line to use:
- “If lovin’ you was illegal, I’d be doin’ life in Texas.”
Bring a blanket, a little picnic, and just sit together in the wildflowers. Simple. Quiet. Unforgettable.
2 - Give a Gift That Feels Like Texas
Skip the generic stuff. Go with something that screams home.
Texas love gifts:
- A pair of matching cowboy boots
- A heart necklace in the shape of Texas
- A custom belt buckle with your anniversary date
What to say when you give it:
“Wherever we go, as long as I’ve got you, I’m home, Texas or not.”
3 - Turn a Regular Date Into a Texas Memory
You don’t need fancy. You need thoughtful, with a Texas twist.
Ideas:
- Grab burgers from Whataburger and eat in the truck bed under the stars
- Share one tub of Blue Bell Creameries ice cream with two spoons
- Take them two-stepping at a legendary dance hall like Gruene Hall
Texas-style line:
“I don’t need fancy. I just need you sittin’ next to me.”
4 - Write a Handwritten Texas Love Note
Texans appreciate words that come from the heart, not a store shelf.
Write this on a card:
- “You’re my favorite hello, my hardest goodbye, and the best thing that ever happened to this Texas heart.”
This card will be kept for life. It's even frame-worthy.
5 - Use a Little Country Charm
Say it slow. Say it sweet. With that Texas warmth.
Texas ways to say “I love you”:
- “I’m mighty glad God let our paths cross.”
- “You’re my once-in-a-lifetime kind of love.”
- “You’ve got my whole heart, darlin’.”
Now My Final Love Thoughts
At the end of the day, the Texas way to say “I love you” isn’t about diamonds or big-city dinners. It’s about time, effort, and making the person you love feel like they matter more than anything else in this big ol’ world.
And if you can do that under a Texas sunset? Well, that’s about as perfect as perfection can get. Happy Valentine's Day Y'all! And remember, God loves you, and so do I.
