It Is Legal In Texas To Go Somewhere With A Gun In Your Car?
Many in the state of Texas carry guns with them. But transportation of the firearms is a question many have. Here's who can and cannot travel with a gun in the Lone Star State.
Laws For Traveling With A Firearm In Texas
As revealed by Point Blank CHL, there are different laws that apply to various types of guns. Per the Texas Motorist Protection Act, a Texan is allowed to have a pistol in their vehicle with a permit. However, the individual in question must be able to purchase the previously mentioned pistol, not be involved a legal infraction that is above a class C misdemeanor, and not be part of a street gang.
In addition, the pistol itself can have bullets in it or not while inside the vehicle. Plus, it must be a holster, whether the gun itself is visible or out of sight. The holder of the gun must be over 21 as well.
Another Law Involving Long Fire Arms In Texas Vehicles
Point Blank CHL also revealed that long firearms are allowed in vehicles. To have said long firearm in your vehicle, just like with a pistol, you have to be legally able to purchase one. The firearm in question can also be unloaded or loaded, like the pistol, and is not required to be hidden.
So if you want to carry a gun in your car in Texas, remember to do so legally and, of course, safely.
