Austin is turning into Halloween Town this fall as the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center hosts Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Light Trail.

From September 25 through November 30, the beloved gardens will glow with scenes inspired by Jack, Sally, and Zero. Picture dripping-blue graveyards, towering pumpkins, and larger-than-life characters lit up under the oaks. Organizers say the experience spans more than 8,300 square feet of interactive video projections, intelligent LED lighting, and 3D-printed sculptures that pull you straight into the movie’s world. It’s scheduled to run Wednesdays through Sundays, from dusk to 10 p.m., giving you plenty of time to soak in spooky season or jump-start the holiday vibes.

What to Expect at the Light Trail

This is a walk-through adventure, not a drive-thru, and that’s part of the magic. Expect about a 7–10 minute walk from the ticket center to the trailhead, then 45 minutes to an hour on the trail itself. The path is paved with a few naturally uneven spots, stroller-friendly, and open to all ages. Pack a little patience for photos, because the set pieces are the kind you’ll want to frame.

Snacks, Drinks, and Seasonal Fun

It’s also very Austin. The Wildflower Center has a long tradition of turning its grounds into illuminated wonderlands, and this is its most delightfully macabre twist yet. Snacks and drinks will be available on-site, so you can sip something warm while Oogie Boogie’s glow and familiar songs roll through the trees. If you’ve ever debated whether this film is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, this trail lets you live in both worlds for one night.

Tickets and Event Details

Tickets go on sale to the public August 15, with timed-entry options and flex tickets. Current listings show prices starting around $31–$33 for kids and $41–$56 for adults, depending on the ticket type. Given the buzz and limited run, grabbing a slot early is smart.
