Rest in peace, Morris Mac Davis, Jan. 21st, 1942 - September 29th, 2020

Mac Davis passed away Tuesday, September 29th, 2020. He was 78 years old.

Country music website The Boot confirmed Davis' passing via Jim Morey, who managed Davis for over 40 years. Morey posted the news on his Facebook page, saying that Davis died with "the love of his life and wife of 38 years, Lise, and his sons Scott, Noah and Cody" at his side.


A Twitter account bearing Mac Davis' name on Monday (September 28th) posted that the "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" singer was "critically ill" after undergoing heart surgery. The message was signed by The Davis Family.

County singer Travis Tritt issued his thoughts late Tuesday night after hearing about Davis' death.

Randy Houser also wrote a short but to-the-point message about Davis' passing.

Davis' movie career began in 1979 with North Dallas Forty. He also appeared in several TV movies, including The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood, Murder, She Wrote: The Last Free Man and Still Holding On: The Legend of Cadillac Jack. He also had his own variety show, The Mac Davis Show, on NBC from 1974-76.

According to his IMDB page, Davis also made appearances in several high-profile TV shows, including Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, King of the Hill and That '70s Show. His final TV roles was on Netflix's Dolly Parton's Heartstrings in 2019.

Davis is also known for writing a couple of Elvis Presley songs: "In the Ghetto" and "A Little Less Conversation." He is also a former ACM Entertainer of the Year award winner.
