Ronda Rousey to Star as Ronda Rousey in ‘Ronda Rousey: The Movie’
This past weekend Ronda Rousey continued to dominate the world of UFC fighting defeating challenger Bethe Correia with a devastating knockout in just 34 seconds. She may very well be the most dominate athlete in her sport. Hell, she might be the most dominate athlete in any sport. While she’s officially conquered the world of mixed martial arts, Rousey wants to next conquer Hollywood. After supporting roles in Furious 7 and Entourage, Rousey has signed on to star in a biopic about her own life for Paramount Pictures.
Variety reports that Paramount has secured the rights to Rousey’s autobiography “My Fight/Your Fight” and has set Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Total Recall) to write the script. In a slightly unusual move, Rousey would star in the film as herself. Rousey apparently had made it known to all interested parties that the rights to the book would come bundled with her as the star of said movie.
With pinup good looks, boundless charisma and all-world athleticism, Rousey is a natural choice to segue to Hollywood. But, can she actually act? Her performance in Furious 7 left a lot to be desired, but all that was really required of her in that movie was to put Michelle Rodriguez in a leglock. She fared slightly better in Entourage (where she again played herself), but acting is clearly not her strong suit. But, Eminem hasn’t exactly been lighting up the big-screen since 8 Mile and that movie worked OK for all involved.
Rousey has one more UFC fight this year before taking a break to focus on the Peter Berg-directed Mile 22 with Mark Wahlberg. Some of our best action stars started out as stilted sports stars (see: Schwarzenegger, Arnold), so it's not unlikely to think that Rousey could become a big star.
