San Angelo Police, Fire Rescue Disabled Woman from Concho River
A 67-year-old San Angelo woman was rescued from the Concho River by Police and Fire personnel after her motorized wheelchair fell down the river’s bank Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 3:30 p.m., San Angelo Public safety communications received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby who said a woman was in the Concho River near Bell Street and Rio Concho Drive yelling for help.
Officers arrived and located the woman stuck in the water. Officer E. McAndrews shed dis duty equipment, and after being assisted down the bank by other officers at the scene, entered the water where he tended to the woman until Fire Department personnel arrived. The woman was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Officers learned the woman had been on the pathway along the river when her motorized wheelchair malfunctioned and went towards the riverbank where it overturned. Officers transported the woman’s wheelchair back to her apartment complex.
