San Angelo Police Investigate Stabbing on Velma Street
Around 1:10 p.m. Thursday afternoon, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Velma Street for the report of a possible stabbing.
Upon arrival, Officers located a 31-year-old woman suffering from a laceration to her arm. The suspect was no longer at the scene. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she reportedly underwent surgery.
Officers obtained a description of the suspect and immediately searched the area. At approximately 1:15 p.m., Officer W. Bowhay located the suspect walking near N. Pope and 18th Streets. The man was identified as Steven Rey Ortiz, 32, of San Angelo.
Ortiz was transported to Police Headquarters for questioning. Following the interview, Ortiz was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Family Violence and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
