As we approach the big 4th of July Weekend, know that there are many events and activities to be enjoyed in the Concho Valley! Take a look at the following list.....

This Friday, July 1st, Downtown Movie Night features 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days'. Enjoy the movie starting at sundown in the parking lot across from the Cactus Hotel. Admission is free. Bring your lawn chairs or blanket. Concessions will also be available. For more information, go to downtownmovienight.com.

The Christoval Volunteer Fire Department's Firecracker 5K and 1 Mile Run-Walk is Monday, July 4th beginning at 8:30 am at the Christoval Park. The 4th of July Barbeque will be at the Community Center from 11-2. Cost is $10 for adult plates plus meat will be sold for $10. per pound to go. There will also be a raffle for gift cards. The Summer Kids World program at Sunset Mall is free every Tuesday from 2 - 3 p.m. through August 9th. Events will be held inside the Community Room which is located next to Sears. For more information and a complete schedule go to sunsetmall.com or call 325-949-1947.

July 2nd will be the 1st Saturday of the month which brings another celebration of art, music and community at the Chicken Farm Art Center from 10 am until 5 pm. Events include artist & vendors with handmade works and gifts, a live music circle hosted by the Chicken Pickers, great food, and free clay art experiments for kids to participate in. The Chicken Farm Art Center is located at 2505 Martin Luther King Blvd. For more information, call 325-653-4936.

Get Ready for the 2016 4th of July Poker Run on Lake Nasworthy. Check in time is between 11:30am and 12:30pm on Monday, July 4th. Entrants need to report to the Horseshoe Bend Park Area in their boat for the official check in. The official starting time will be at 1:00pm. Entrants will have until 3:00pm to locate and visit all 5 of the Host Docks, pick-up their tokens and return to a social mixer while the winners are being identified. A limited number of entries will be available at the registration area so plan on arriving early.

This Saturday, July 2nd, the Rowena Lions Club is having their annual 'Meet You at the Square' Cookoff. You can cook brisket, ribs, chicken, beans and mix margaritas. There is also a kid's parade at 11 am, washer pitching contest, and the 4-H Club will be selling barbeque sandwiches & other refreshments. Call 325-442-2331 for entry details and more information.

The Concho Valley Farmers Market is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday under the pavilion at 609 S. Oakes St. across from Fort Concho. Vendors come from a 75-mile radius around San Angelo offering locally grown and seasonal fruits, vegetables and plants from 7 a.m. until they sell out (typically by noon).

The San Angelo Symphony's Pops Concert is this Sunday, July 3rd at the River Stage. Gates open at noon. The Community Band begins at 7, followed by the San Angelo Symphony at 8:30 pm. Admission is free. For more information go to sanangelosymphony.org or call 658-5877.

The Mertzon Boy Scout Troop 116's Annual 4th of July barbeque begins Monday at 11:30 at the Community Center. Cost is your generous donation and to go plates will be available. Call 325-234-3077 for pre-orders.

The Lake Nasworthy Home Owners Association presents its annual Fourth of July fireworks spectacular once again this year with their Fireworks display starting at 9:00 PM Monday, July 4th. Everyone is invited to come out to the lake and enjoy the free celebration.
