Liam "The Warrior" is a local young boy battling his third round of brain cancer. We are asking that you drop by a special fundraiser and help Liam's family by giving a donation for a brisket plate including potato salad, beans, and bread this Saturday, August 31st beginning at 10 AM until all the food is gone. El Burro Loco food truck will be in our Townsquare Media parking lot at 1301 Abe Street across from Denny's serving lunch and dinner for donations. Give as much as you can -- EVERY dollar raised will be given to Liam's family to help with expenses. The 46th Annual World Championship BBQ Goat Cookoff is held annually on Labor Day weekend at Richards Park in Brady, featuring over 200 cooking teams, live music, kids games, arts and crafts and food vendors, goat meal, Texas beer and wine tasting and a fun run. San Angelo State Park and Texas Parks and Wildlife are offering a special program called 'On The Right Track' this Saturday, August 31st from 9:30 - 11:00 am. Learn how to identify different wildlife footprints and how to make a mold of the track. The program starts at Chaparral Pavilion on the South Side of the park. The 38th Annual Rentech Chili Super Bowl is Labor Day weekend in scenic Buffalo Gap. All the fun and festivities take place Sat, Aug 31st and Sun, Sept 1st. Come out and enjoy good food, great entertainment and some awesome auctions and raffles. This event, benefiting the Ben Richey Boys Ranch is a chili, brisket, chicken, rib, bean and dessert cook-off at the Old Settlers Reunion Grounds,100 Vine St, in Buffalo Gap. Cost is free this year however, donations are graciously accepted. The Sat night dance is also free. Gates open at 9 AM both Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 675-8412.
The Concho Valley Farmers Market’s thrice-weekly produce sales begin at 7 am each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday under the pavilion at 609 S. Oakes St. across from Fort Concho. The vendors, who come from a 75-mile radius around San Angelo, sell locally grown seasonal fruits, vegetables and plants. For more information, call 245-3338.
Enjoy an afternoon of art making at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts every Thursday from 3-6 pm in the Education Studio. They always feature fun with clay and watercolors, and every three weeks there are two new art projects to try. Admission is free and visitors are welcome to drop in anytime between 3 and 6.
