The state champion Miles Bulldogs, winners of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s 8 and under flag football division, were recognized at this morning’s meeting of the San Angelo City Council.
The Bulldogs, who competed in the City of San Angelo Recreation Division’s fall youth flag football league, advanced to and won the state tournament Nov. 15-17 in Southlake, a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb. The Bulldogs defeated the Stephenville Cougars in the championship round of the 13-team tournament.

The team was coached by Bubba Ellison and Shawn Riddle.

The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation is a nonprofit organization established in 1925 to promote, organize and conduct amateur athletics in the state of Texas. To participate in the TAAF youth flag football program, a team must be registered through a TAAF member, such as a city Parks & Recreation Department.

This year’s state tournament will be held at Texas Bank Sports Complex in San Angelo on Nov. 14-16.
