Girl’s Leg Shrivels and Turns Black After Snake Bite
An unidentified girl in South America will undergo an amputation after a snake bite caused her leg to shrivel and turn black.
The venom from the snake cause necrosis, the premature death of cells, causing the tissue in her legs to die, shrivel, and turn black. The photo below, which was posted to Instagram by user Juventudemedica, shows the girl's leg approximately a month after the snake bite. She was originally being treated by remedies from her indigenous culture before being brought to doctors.
Doctors say the girl will need her leg amputated, but may still die from the condition if the necrosis continues to spread throughout her body.
