Texas Is Creating A Concert Safety Task Force
Texas is putting a statewide task force together to focus on ways to insure more safety for Texas concert fans.
This action was prompted by the November 5th performance by rapper Travis Scott at the Astroworld Festival in Houston where Ten people were killed and hundreds injured.
Governor Greg Abbott announced the formation of the task force to help oversee big events drawing thousands of people that up until now have for the most part had to rely on cities to arrange for security and protection without the state having much of a presence with security or being involved in the security decision making process.
In a statement, Governor Abbott said...“Live music is a source of joy, entertainment, and community for so many Texans and the last thing concertgoers should have to worry about is their safety and security."
Therefore Abbott has laid the groundwork for the new task force, which will be led by Texas Music Office Director Brendon Anthony and will employ music industry experts, safety consultants, and law enforcement officials. They will work together looking for ways to improve concert safety.
When it comes to large events In Texas, whether its a concert, sporting event or whatever large gathering, cities quite often divide the responsibilities of safety between numerous departments like the fire, police and health departments which sometimes becomes a sticky situation as to who is supposed to take care of what part of the plan.
Quite often Cities will turn all of that over to event planners who have a lot of experience in arranging for the appropriate number of security officers, medical professionals and other logistics that go into the planning of a large event.
I will be very interested to see how this new task force works out. If it truly offers fans more safety, that's got to be a great thing!
