Walmart Competes With Amazon Prime
In a press release, Walmart has announced launching a new membership program called Walmart+ that brings together in-store and online benefits. With this program, Walmart is looking to compete with Amazon Prime.
Walmart+ has the reach of more than 4,700 stores. Membership will be available to all customers starting on Sept.15th. The cost is $98 a year or $12.95 a month and it comes with a 15-day free trial period.
This program would give members same-day delivery on 160,000 items, a fuel discount at certain gas stations and a chance to check out at Walmart stores without having to wait at a register.
Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer for Walmart said “Life feels more complicated than ever. Walmart+ is designed to make it easier, giving customers an option to not have to sacrifice on cost or convenience. We know shopping should fit customers’ needs, not the other way around. We have always been a champion for the right item at the right price, but now it’s more than that. We have the right shopping solutions at the right time, too.”
Walmart’s online sales are growing quickly, but even though they are the world’s biggest retailer, Walmart is still a distant second online to Amazon. Walmart is expected to take 6% of all online sales in the U.S. this year, compared to Amazon’s 38%, according to market research firm eMarketer.
