As I write this, I am a week away from being a first-time mom.

In Texas, there has been a constant debate about women's rights to reproduction and it is a scary conversation. New Mexico is having that same discussion and sometimes women are stuck in a tough place.

Everyone's situation is different but what seems to be true in every situation is a baby is helpless. The baby shouldn't have to suffer coming into this world.

There is a law to make sure there is an outlet for those who continue a pregnancy but don't feel fit to be a parent. This is called Safe Haven Law.

This message is being shared now due to the shocking story of a New Mexico mother throwing her baby in a dumpster. Thanks to three people who were dumpster diving and a surveillance camera, 18-year-old Alexis Avila was arrested for dumping her child. She is being charged with attempted first-degree murder, or alternatively, second-degree felony child abuse, according to KOB.com.
