I once heard someone say gas prices go up like a rocket and they come down like a feather.

Well, it looks like we are strapped to a rocket right now. AAA Texas says the gas price average in the state is now over $3/gallon for the 1st time in over 7 years.

According to KVUE-TV:

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.02 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is nine cents more than on this day last week and is $1.15 more per gallon compared to this day last year.

The story from KVUE goes on to say the cheapest gas can be found in the Lubbock and Sherman/Denison metropolitan areas while the highest prices for gas are in El Paso.

According to the Gas Buddy app, the lowest price for gas in San Angelo is $2.87 per gallon at the Walmart on South Bryant. The highest price for gas is $3.09 at Stripes on Knickerbocker at Valleyview Road.

KVUE reports the Energy Information Administration says demand for gasoline in the United States increased by about five percent week-to-week at the end of the week on October 15th. The story says demand is also higher than at this time last year.

So, get ready to pay more at the pump if you plan on traveling. Most of us in San Angelo who travel go on long trips since we are so isolated here in West Texas. It's more than 3 hours to drive to Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Lubbock from San Angelo.

So, what do you think about higher gas prices? What do you think is driving the demand? Do you think the government should step in and do something about the price increases? Tell us what you think on Facebook or on our station app.
