About a month and a half ago before the holiday season began, we told you gas prices were going up like a rocket. At the time, prices for gas in San Angelo were as high as $3.09 per gallon on October 22nd. It was thought that gas prices would continue to rise as the holiday season approached.

But this morning, a check of my Gas Buddy app shows a range of prices for regular fuel as low as $2.72 per gallon and as high as S2.95 per gallon in San Angelo.

Also back in October, we asked if the government should step in and do something about the rise in gas prices. When we posted the blog on Facebook, we even got a comment from someone saying "Let's go Branden" using the popular derisive phrase aimed at President Joe Biden.

Well, the Biden administration did in fact do something about the high gas prices. A couple of weeks ago, the White House announced a plan to release oil from the country's strategic reserves. According to whitehouse.gov:

Today, the President is announcing that the Department of Energy will make available releases of 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower prices for Americans and address the mismatch between demand exiting the pandemic and supply.

So, will gas prices stay down as the holiday travel and shopping season continues to ramp up over the next couple of weeks? Or will prices reverse and head up like a rocket again? What do you think? In the mean time, we'll see what happens and visit this topic again in the future and see where gas prices are at in a couple of weeks.
