Governor Abbott Seeks Help From Other States to Deal With COVID Spread
COVID cases in the state of Texas are on the rise and Governor Greg Abbott is taking action to address the increase in cases.
The governor announced new actions on Monday including seeking help from other states and pausing elective procedures to slow down the spread of the virus in Texas.
The Texas Department of State Health Services will utilize staffing agencies to provide medical personnel from out-of-state to Texas health care facilities to assist in COVID-19 operations. Abbott has asked the Texas Hospital Association to request hospitals to voluntarily postpone elective medical procedures in order to increase hospital capacity for COVID-19 patients.
Abbott advocated vaccines as the best defense to combat the spread of COVID-19 cases.
“The State of Texas is taking action to combat the recent rise in COVID-19 cases and ensure that our hospitals and communities have the resources and support they need to mitigate the virus,” Abbott said. “Texans can help bolster our efforts by getting vaccinated against COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective, and it is our best defense against this virus. Texans can visit covidvaccine.texas.gov to find a COVID-19 vaccine provider near them.”
Locally here in San Angelo, hospitalizations have risen roughly halfway to the peak that was seen back in January. There are 971 active COVID-19 cases in San Angelo with 55 currently hospitalized. 66 new cases were reported on Monday.
