COVID-19 Cases On the Rise: Here’s How You Can Get Free At-Home Tests
It's happening again. More people are testing positive for COVID-19. Here's what you need to know.
This map below is according to the CDC website on July 25th, 2022. The orange color are the high-risk factor areas.
On their website, this is also what it showed for Lubbock County.
I always like having tests at home to be safe if needed. And with these high-risk factors, I definitely want to be careful. I just like taking them before I see anyone or travel anywhere.
I'm supposed to see my family soon, so to be safe I went out and tried to find some tests. A couple of places were sold out, but then I found out some interesting information. I knew you could get free tests sent to your house, but I didn't know about this.
I went to the drive-thru Walmart pharmacy and found out that through your insurance you can get 8 free COVID-19 tests each month. To do this, you just go to your local pharmacy that sells at-home tests where they look up your information and give you the free tests.
Above are the ones I got from Walmart. There are two tests in a box, and they gave me four boxes. This is a great way to have some COVID-19 tests at home just in case you need them while not breaking the bank.
According to USA Today, "insurance companies have been required to cover the tests authorized by the FDA since January, when the Biden administration put the federal requirement for private health insurers into effect."
So, for example, if you're a family of four, you can get up to 32 free tests over-the-counter every 30 days. The plans are required to cover $12 per individual test, or $24 if the box comes with two.
There are a couple of things to note. I would call the one you are going to before you go since some places are out or might not be doing it. Please don't get too many so there is enough for everyone and you must go through the pharmacy to do this not just any regular check out.
