How You Can Help The San Angelo Animal Shelter In A Buggy Situation
Today, August 26, 2022 is National Dog Day. There are 282 dogs right here in San Angelo who could use a little help. They need someplace to crash for little while because of a fumigation issue.
You see, bugs are not just a problem for people. Dogs and Cats don't like them much either. although my cat tries to eat them. This has brought about a tricky situation going right now at the San Angelo Animal Shelter at 3142 US Highway 67 North.
The shelter has a cockroach problem. Cockroaches are drawn to pet foods. As anyone knows who has tried to eliminate them it is not an easy task. It is especially difficult when you have pets and children. Often the harsh chemicals needed to eradicate a roach infestation are toxic to them.
Now, you're getting an idea of the problem the animal shelter is dealing with. Shelter managers have tried everything to get rid of the bugs, using pet-friendly products. It didn't work. Now, they have to move to alternatives. Here's where they need your help.
The animal shelter is going to have to close for a few days, or however long it takes to get rid of these roaches once and for all. That means 282 dogs and 88 cats are going to have to find temporary homes. The City of San Angelo will update everyone as soon as they've finalized the details.
In the meantime, they could sure use some help. They are looking for people to foster parent some of the dogs or cats while this fumigation process is taking place. Think of your new roommate as a temporary visitor. Although, we warn you that you might want to make the situation a permanent one. These cuddly visitors can curl right up next to your heart pretty fast.
Fortunately, the people from Concho Valley PAWS, American Pets Alive! and Best Friends Animal Society are working helping out. They are trying to find rescues to assist in receiving dogs for adoptive placement. These folks are animal angels. They do so much to save animals every day from euthanasia.
