Is It Illegal to Leave Dog Poop in Texas?
Dog walks are always so awkward. You’re innocently walking around when suddenly, your dog starts circling around and locks eyes with you as they awkwardly squat. Suddenly, it hits you...you forgot your doggy bags.
First of all, how embarrassing, but what now? So many thoughts begin to formulate in your mind. Did anyone see? Do you go run back home and grab a bag? If someone saw, how do you prove you’re coming back to clean up? Or, do you just walk away and never return?
Can I just leave my dog poop in Texas?
This is a safe place, it’s ok to admit if you didn’t pick up your dog’s deuce. However, in Texas, each city creates its own ordinance for animal related issues, like doggy doo-doo.
In Victoria, you can face punishment if you don’t pick up your pet’s #2. According to the city Ordinance No. 2021-218:
The owner of every animal shall make sanitary disposal of any feces deposited by his animal on public walks, streets, recreation areas, or upon private property not within the control, possession, or supervision of the owner.
Now, if you choose to walk away from your pet duties(no pun intended) you could face a pretty large fine.
A violation of this section is a health and sanitation offense, and the punishment for violation of this section shall be a fine in an amount not to exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000.00).
For $2,000, I think it would be safe to just grab a few extra bags before heading out on your next walk.
