The Blue Santa Event: Another Reason To Love San Angelo
It is easy to become distracted by the bad things in communities like San Angelo daily. There are tragedies and victims that can cause us all to question what is happening to humanity.
Then, there are the singular events, where many hard-working people come together to bring goodness and joy. These events can remind us all that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well.
One of those events happened today in San Angelo. The 16th annual Operation Blue Santa. Hosted by the San Angelo Coalition of Police, this event allows children from the San Angelo Independent School District and TLCA to shop for Christmas with police officers and volunteers at the Walmart Supercenter on 29th Street.
The gifts are made possible from private donations from ordinary citizens all across the Concho Valley. This year a total of 38 children got the opportunity to shop with officers and pick out a gift they might not otherwise have enjoyed this Christmas.
Some of the volunteers this year included the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Security Forces from Goodfellow Air Force Base, and the officer's spouses and children.
Walmart also pitched in with wrapping supplies and refreshments for all the volunteers. Some of the great photos of the event were taken by San Angelo Police Department's Crime Scene Division and Gandy's Ink provided "Blue Santa" t-shirts for all the volunteers.
With every bad event that happens in our community, all the times people bring harm and despair upon others, our hearts can tear and break. Today's Operation Blue Santa event and countless other charitable events in our incredible community should convince us all that in the end good does prevail, especially here in San Angelo.
