Stoney Larue is Moving ‘Onward’
‘Onward’ is Stoney’s 8th studio album and he’s hoping that it takes his career to new heights!
After being on the road playing 200 plus shows a year for about twenty years, Stoney is reaching for more. He has a very loyal following, a string of hit albums and singles, three of his albums have been in the top 25 on the national charts and he has earned the respect of Texas/Red artist and fans as well as mainstream country artists.
At age 42, Larue finds himself at a crossroads at this point in his career as he explains...
"I will never turn my back on the Texas scene, and I was there for the beginnings of Red Dirt, but the fact is, I don't want to be completely defined by that. I realize that it has been my bread and butter for a long time, and I am extremely appreciative, I wrote 'Hill Country Boogaloo' for this album to express that, but that's not all I am. I'm a country music artist. It's what I do."
Recording in Nashville has allowed for him to explore a broad range of music including early singer/songwriter influences such as Merle Haggard and Ed Bruce, and tackles his own songs and those written for him by his peers.
From traditional country to southern rock, Larue has the diversity to sing it all...
"I like testing myself and finding out just where I am most vulnerable, but allowing myself to show strength and resilience too. I've been through a lot, but I'm still here and hopeful that my experiences bring a patience and honesty to my music that my fans can hear. Sometimes I might be too honest, but it helps me make a strong connection to my audience, I think they understand. My fans have stuck by me, and I want to stick by them, but I also want to keep growing as an artist and sing songs that resonate and tell a story that they can relate to, and I want to relate to it too."
Larue is a seasoned pro. He was one of the founders of the Texas/Red Dirt music scene, has delighted fans with his music, and live performances since 2002 and still he finds himself looking "Onward" to the future.
Since it's release in Nov, 2019, Kickin' Country has added several songs from 'Onward' to our playlist including 'You Oughta Know Me By Now', Hill Country Boogaloo, and his current single 'Message In A Bottle'. I've got a feeling more singles will be coming from this album.
If you don't have Stoney Larue's 'Onward' in your collection yet, I would say...Get It!
