The MLB season is trying desperately to get back on track amidst the coronavirus pandemic, but that is proving easier said than done.

Dodgers rotation piece David Price announced over the weekend that he would be sitting the season out due to health concerns. Around the league, positive tests are being announced as part of the initial tests for summer camp.

Thirty-eigh positive tests across the league were announced on July 3rd, when the MLB announced the results for the first round of COVID-19 tests that were administered. Out of 3,185 individuals tested, there were 38 positive tests, an overall positive rate of 1.2 percent. Thirty-one players and seven staffers tested positive across 19 different clubs.

The Texas Rangers confirmed their first positive test Monday afternoon in slugger Joey Gallo. According to TR Sullivan from MLB.com, Gallo first tested on June 27th and is asymptomatic.

Texas Rangers studio host Jared Sandler adds that Gallo had positive saliva tests on June 29th and July 2nd, sandwiched between a negative nasal test on June 30th.

Due to the timing of the positive tests, the Texas Rangers are confident that Joey Gallo could still be available for the start of the season. Gallo must first record two negative tests before being cleared to return to action.

Gallo joins high profile players like Freddie Freeman of the Braves and the Yankees DJ LeMahieu as players who have tested positive.
