Recently we have had the devious licks and bathroom TikTok challenge, now schools must be on the lookout for a more disturbing challenge. The "slap a staff member" challenge is the next "challenge" according to a letter sent to parents this week in the Round Rock ISD in Central Texas.

Even more concerning, the next “challenge” for October, according to posts on social media, is to “slap a staff member.” We are asking our parents and guardians to please have conversations with your students (and encourage students to have conversations with their peers) about the disruptive nature of these challenges and the disciplinary consequences and potential criminal charges that could result. For example, slapping a school district staff member, whether in the face or on any part of their body, is a criminal offense and considered an assault on a public servant, a third-degree felony.

The letter goes on to say TikTok is promising to remove any challenge videos and related hashtags.

Please talk to your students and peers about respecting school staff, fellow students, and school property. We were pleased to hear that TikTok has vowed to remove videos and related hashtags associated with the challenge and hope that the trend will be extinguished so that our campuses can return to fully focusing on academics, extracurricular activities, and the social and emotional wellbeing of students. Thank you for your help and support in this matter.

This is the weirdest thing. It is wrong and there need to be consequences for students who slap a staff member and think it's funny to post it on social media. There is no way we could've got away with assaulting a staff member when we were kids. There would have been licks coming to us. So far, I haven't heard of any prosecution for these "slapping" challenges.

So, we want to hear what you think about this story. Have you seen or heard of any "slap a staff member" challenges in San Angelo? Let us know on Facebook or on our station app.
