There Might Be A Bright Side to San Angelo’s Drought If You Own A Ford Pickup

Without a doubt, the best selling pickup truck in Texas is Ford's F-150.  That could be bad news the next time there's a rainy spell  here in San Angelo.  Although with the current drought, that might take awhile.

Ford has announced that they are recalling more than 650,000 pick up trucks and big SUV's in the U.S. because the windshield wipers can break and fail.  The recall covers certain F-150 pickups, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUV's from the 2020 and 2021 model years.  Also included are F-250, 350, 450 and 55 trucks 2020-2022.

You know all those Chevy and Dodge Truck owners here in San Angelo are gloating right now. They may even have to purchase a larger set of truck nuts.   Some  may even dash out to the nearest auto supply store to slap a fresh Calvin and Hobbs sticker in the back window peeing on a fresh Ford logo.  Let's hope no one actually pees on a Ford Truck as that would most certainly be illegal and may surely cause the windshield wipers to fail.

Ford told government regulators that the teeth on the wipers aren't the right height. This can cause the wiper arms to become stripped.  The malfunctioning wiper arms can reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.  It can also increase the number of crushed armadillos on local highways.  The sound of a crushing armadillo shell is something you won't soon forget.

So far, Ford says there have been 754 reports of malfunctioning wiper arms.  The problem was compounded by supply chain issues. Some of the affected trucks were built with higher torque wiper motors because of the global shortage of computer chips.

The Good News in all this, affected truck owners will receive a recall letters starting May 23. Dealers will replace both front windshield wiper arms at no cost.

So, while the affected trucks remain "Ford Tough" just like the wicked witch of the west in "The WIzard of OZ" they may be done in by a simple rain storm.  Meanwhile, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan Truck owners will be especially noticeable if and when the next rain storm happens here in San Angelo.
