#ThrowbackThursday – The First Farm Aid Concert
31 years ago on this date (September 22, 1985), Willie Nelson and friends started the benefit concert, Farm Aid.
The concert took place in in Champaign, Illinois and was held to raise money for family farmers in the US. Nelson was helped by fellow organizers John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Among the performers at the concert were Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Kenny Rogers, Roy Orbison, Alabama, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Billy Joel. Over $9 million was raised for farmers during the benefit.
